Committed to Providing Water Management Solutions
Hancor Hosts Valuable Ag Drainage Seminars for Producers
As part of Hancor’s commitment to providing innovative solutions to the industry, they offered a series of information seminars on water management this summer. The Ag Insights Water Management Solutions seminars were held across six different states in the Northeastern, Midwest US.
Each event featured a local guest speaker that discussed drainage practices specific to their geography.
The seminar in Springfield, IL on July 26 featured local guest speaker Don Pitts, the State Water Quality Specialist for NRCS in Illinois. He discussed potential benefits of drainage water management for Illinois agriculture.
In Oelwein, IA on July 28 Dr. Matt Helmers, an Assistant Professor and Extension Agriculture Engineer for the Ag and Biosystems
Engineering Department at Iowa State University discussed Subsurface Drainage Design and Drainage Water Management in Iowa.
On August 9 in Fairmont, MN local guest speaker Dr. Gary Sands, an Associate Professor and Extension Engineer in the Department of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering at the University of Minnesota discussed Conservation Drainage: Meeting Production and Environmental Objectives.
The seminar in Findlay, OH on August 12 featured local guest speaker Dr. Larry C. Brown, a Professor and Extension Agricultural Engineer. He discussed Ohio Research on Best Water Management Practices.
On August 24 in Brazil, IN Dr. Jane Frankenberger, an Associate Professor and Extension Agricultural Engineer in the Agricultural and Biological Engineering Department at Purdue University discussed Managing Drainage to Improve Water Quality and Crop Yield.
And the seminar in Frankenmuth, MI on September 8 featured Barry Goodwin, Hancor Sales Representative for the Agricultural Region and Hancor representative to the Agricultural Drainage Management Coalition. In addition, Mike Hagen, Hancor Regional Sales Manager for the Agricultural Region, also spoke to guests about drainage management in Michigan.
For all these events Hancor partnered with the Agricultural Drainage Management Coalition (ADMC). Their goal is to develop a national effort to implement improved drainage water management practices and systems that will enhance crop production, conserve water, and reduce adverse off-site impacts on water quality and quantity.
These educational seminars provided attendees with effective drainage management strategies. They learned about the benefits of some conservation farming practices, and discovered solutions to nutrient transfer and hypoxia issues. In addition, by implementing a controlled or managed drainage system, producers can help improve their crop production.
As part of the Best Management Practices (BMP) solutions, guests learned more about Hancor’s innovative solutions to help manage drainage. In particular, Hancor’s Water Control Structure, EcoFirst®, Heavy Duty Dual Wall, BLUE SEAL® and Sure-Lok® are effective products for drainage applications. Attendees were told about various funding opportunities available, and then had an opportunity to take a plant tour.
