Hancor strengthens its environmental commitment by joining U.S. Green Building Council
Findlay, Ohio, May 26, 2004 —The construction industry’s emphasis on environmentally friendly building practices is a trend one pipe manufacturer continues to embrace.
Hancor, Inc., one of the largest manufacturers of storm water management systems, has joined the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), a 4,000-company strong membership organization. The USGBC is the nation’s foremost coalition of leaders from across the building industry working to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work.
“Our commitment to environmental stewardship is a proactive plan based on sustainability, and it’s a direct response to the demand from our customers,” said Hancor Area Engineer Greg Spires, P.E. “Joining the USGBC enables Hancor to partner with organizations with similar environmentally friendly objectives.”
Buoyed by the success of its EcoFirst high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe, Hancor has a fully extended affiliation with Ducks Unlimited and recently partnered with the John Deere Golf & Turf One Source™ program. Now Hancor can call on the resources that USGBC provides as well.
USGBC members have the opportunity to forge strategic alliances with key industry and research organizations and federal, state and local government agencies to transform the design and construction environment.
"The Council welcomes Hancor as a new member,” said Christine Ervin, President & CEO, USGBC. “The phenomenal growth and diversity of the Council is representative of the real commitment from companies like Hancor to help drive market transformation of the built environment.”
Hancor’s EcoFirst pipe does just that. It is a dual wall high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe engineered with a minimum 50 percent recycled HDPE material while also meeting the performance and structural requirements of AASHTO M294. It is the highest performing gravity flow drainage solution with an environmentally friendly advantage.
“This was a decision that continues Hancor’s philosophy of supporting the environment,” Spires said. “And it puts us in touch with a greater set of resources that can help us develop a wider range of applications for environmentally conscious products like EcoFirst pipe.”
