Hancor strengthens its commitment to the environment
State grant money to be invested in HDPE recycling efforts
Findlay, Ohio, December 12, 2003 — Thanks in part to a grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Hancor, Inc. is putting even more money where the earth is.
One of the nation’s largest suppliers of storm water management systems, Hancor will match the $35,000 it was awarded through Hancock County by the ODNR to expand its plastics recycling capabilities. The money will be invested in advanced testing equipment, which will allow Hancor to utilize at least 1,000 tons of recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe per year.
“Hancor is dedicated to caring for our natural resources through environmental stewardship,” says Bill Altermatt, Hancor’s Vice President of Marketing. “We have developed a full line of products to help municipalities, developers and contractors meet and exceed EPA Phase II requirements and protect our environment, now and into the future.”
The testing equipment will be used to conduct continuous field research and development to expand current recycled material boundary limits used in new profile dual wall pipe. In addition, certification research in the manufacturing of Hancor’s EcoFirst pipe will be conducted. EcoFirst is a dual wall HDPE pipe engineered with a minimum 50 percent recycled resin, helping to increase compliance with EPA requirements. It is a top performing gravity flow drainage solution.
In September, Hancor and Ducks Unlimited agreed to partner for another three years to help wetland preservation around the world. In June, Hancor received the “Ideas Taking Wing” award from DU in appreciation for financial contributions toward the conservation of North America’s wetland and wildlife.
