Hancor earns SPE Environmental Stewardship Award
Partnership with Ducks Unlimited making a difference
Findlay, Ohio, January 30, 2004 — The relationship between Hancor, Inc. and Ducks Unlimited (DU) continues to reap benefits for both organizations.
Hancor will receive the Society of Plastics Engineers’ (SPE) Environmental Stewardship Award on Feb. 19, 2004 in recognition for the development of EcoFirst pipe and its water control structures for environmentally sensitive projects. Both are officially licensed Ducks Unlimited products, and DU submitted Hancor as a nominee for the award.
“Hancor has been a leader – stepping up in 2003 to provide financial, product and product engineering support to Ducks Unlimited,” said Philip Milburn of DU. “It was a pleasure to nominate them for this prestigious award. We’re happy to see them win it. They earned it.”
Judges for the SPE’s 2004 Global Plastics Environmental Awards focused on the following criteria when making their decisions:
- Demonstration of leadership in the areas of plastics and environment
- Creativity and originality
- Technological innovation
- Facilitation of tests, standards, regulations, etc.
- Creating new markets to benefit the environment
- Significant economic impact
- Contributions to the solution of environmental issues and improving quality of life
According to DU statistics, during the nearly two years since Hancor has been its partner, 689 projects have been completed and 250,000 acres of wetlands have been restored. That accounted for 110 percent of DU’s goal over that period.
EcoFirst, 12 through 60 inch diameter pipe is made with a minimum 50 percent recycled polyethylene material content – yet its performance exceeds the industry’s standard specification, AASHTO M294.
Hancor’s patent pending molecular enhancement technology produces a polyethylene blend containing recycled polyethylene materials with significantly higher slow crack growth resistance, as measured by the well-established industry test methods, NCTL and NCLS.
As a result, EcoFirst is an engineered pipe that delivers nearly one and one half times the service life of other corrugated pipe products that meet AASHTO M294 performance requirements – including products made with virgin resin. EcoFirst pipe is a top performing choice for a wide range of storm water drainage applications.
