New ASTM Specification Recognizes Reliability Of Polyethylene
Findlay, Ohio – April 26, 2005: Hancor is pleased to announce that the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) has published a new specification for polyethylene pipe. Hancor has worked closely with the high density polyethylene (HDPE) industry to secure this new standard.
As of April 1, 2005 the standard ASTM F2306 is in place for 12” to 60” corrugated polyethylene pipe with a smooth interior for storm water drainage applications.
“Previous ASTM specifications for HDPE pipe were just for subsurface drainage. This new ASTM specification is for storm drainage applications, which is quite significant for the polyethylene industry,” says Bill Altermatt, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Hancor. “HDPE is an effective material that is used successfully around the world and Hancor is proud to continually strive to drive specifications that validate and prove the value of polyethylene.”
Standards are a common language that effectively communicate a material’s requirements and ensures performance consistency; there are high standard demands for any pipe material.
ASTM F2306 illustrates hard work and dedication to the industry. This accomplishment took longer than necessary due to attempts of competitive mischief exercised by competing traditional materials. However, the result is a fair standard developed by a leading organization that recognizes polyethylene as a reliable and successful material.
“Polyethylene is proven and has been used in a wide range of applications for over 30 years,” adds Altermatt. “Our products utilize the latest technology and go through rigorous testing. Hancor is committed to achieving standards that create more reliable long term service life options for the design and user community.”
The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) develops consensus standards that make products and services safer, better and more cost-effective. This standard developing organization has a strict process to ensure an impartial and reliable standard.
